Paddling to Grey Owl’s Cabin

Grey Owl’s Cabin is located on the north-west Shore of Ajawaan Lake. The journey begins at the Kingsmere parking lot and is just over 20km one way. “Grey Owl” was born Archibald Belaney in 1888 in Hastings, England. He started working for the park in the 1930’s. In his 7 year association with the park Grey Owls job was to re-establish a beaver colony in the Park. He is considered to be one of the first active naturalists and has become closely associated with Prince Albert National Park.

5km to Sand Beach campground form Chipewyan Portage
3.5km from Sandy Beach to Northend campground (group camping available)
Heading north along the shore form Northend campground you will find the trail head to Grey Owl’s Cabin. The trail is 3.2km one way hiking, and there is a .6km portage route that branching off to the right for paddlers that wish to paddle on Ajawaan.
- There is a trail branching off to the left about ¾ of the way to Grey Owl’s, this 3.5km trail (one way) heads past Lone Island Lake to Sanctuary Lake where a fire watch tower still stands.

Kingsmere is a massive and beautiful lake, but it is important to be careful when out on the water. Wind and Weather can change with out warning. Always play it safe and have a way off the water in case of emergency.
